MUMBAI: Western Digital Corp., a hard drive manufacturer, has announced that it is establishing a network of service centers in India to expedite service to customers. As part of a worldwide strategic initiative to grow business by providing the highest levels of customer support, Western Digital will now provide its product replacement service locally, through authorized service centers in Bangalore, New Delhi, Mumbai, Chennai and Calcutta.

According to MAIT, PC sales are expected to reach three million units in 2003-04, representing an annual growth rate of 30 percent. With this expected high growth, the Indian PC market is a strategic focus point for Western Digital.

Commenting on the service offering, Western Digital’s Regional Director for emerging markets, Hafeez Khawaja said, "Localizing customer service underscores Western Digital's long-term commitment to the Indian market. Western Digital is aligning customer service with our proven top product quality to support our distribution partners throughout India."

Operated by Teleplan Asia Pacific in partnership with RT Outsourcing Services Ltd, provider of after sales and warranty fulfillment services in India, Western Digital's India service center network is spread geographically across the country and is designed to significantly increase the speed of return material authorization (RMA) service to end-customers.

According to the company, localizing customer service streamlines international customs processes, eliminates freight charges and ultimately reduces costs. The new Indian customer service centers accept customers' in-warranty Western Digital products, purchased in India from authorized Western Digital distributors and is equipped with hard drive testing equipment to expedite service of products returned.
