What is the difference between your emerging markets and European markets? What are the trends you see in the emerging markets?

For PTC, emerging markets consists of Russia, Eastern Europe, Middle East, Africa and South Rim (Asia- pacific). The major trend that I am seeing in the emerging markets is the entry of globalisation. Most of the companies in these regions are looking at global markets. India is a best example for this. Some of the Indian majors are acquiring companies in the US and Europe. This is a healthy trend.

Emerging markets needs different set of services, which requires for the local condition. We need to look at companies in these regions, which have low cost structure.

What are the immediate challenges that you need to address in Asian countries?

Some of the challenges that most of the companies face when they look at emerging markets are to establish a supporting eco system, mainly to have a support center in local languages and to increase customer satisfaction. India and Russia have very high-educated people. This makes easy for us to get required talent for our engineering services.

Now India is riding on the product engineering outsourcing wave. Is there a big opportunity for you?

We are seeing a huge opportunity in India. To cater to this emerging market, we have five channel partners. We are now looking at having system integrators, who can implement our products in enterprises.

Why are you looking at having system integrators in India?

We see that most of the companies who have implemented our products are not moving up the value chain. They are moving from desktop environment to enterprise environment. With this, it becomes very important for us to partner with local company for product implementation and for services.

Can you tell me what’s the kind of growth you are having in India and how does this outsourcing wave help you in getting more revenues?

We cannot reveal our revenues. I can say that by 2008 PTC aims to achieve billion dollar revenues. In this journey, emerging markets will play a major role. At the same time, we have seen 12 per cent growth in Asia, 21 per cent growth in Europe and 38 per cent growth in North American markets.

Few years back you had partnered with colleges and provided PTC tools. What is the current status on this?

Our education footprint has seen a growth of 30-35 per cent. Now we are looking at reaching out to schools.

Could you elaborate on the school initiative?

We are working on this. This will be announced soon. We want to take CAD/CAM to schools. This will allow students to get to know about some of the tools before going to the college.
