WB Govt. credits e-governance for hike in tax revenue

The State Government of West Bengal has witnessed a 36 percent hike (compared to the previous corresponding period) in the tax revenue collected in the first half of FY 2012-13, as per a PTI report.

"Revenue collection in the April-September period this year was Rs 14,176 crore, a rise of 36 per cent over the corresponding period last year. Last year, the figure was Rs 10,428 crore," said state finance minister Amit Mitra.

Mitre said that, e-governance and e-tendering has contributed to the growth of revenue. The target for the full year was 25 percent over FY 2011-12, while addressing the annual general meeting of the Bharat Chamber of Commerce.

As of now, the government had collected Rs 25,000 crore revenue from taxes during 2011-12.
