NEW YORK, USA: Wavelink Corporation today announced the upcoming release of the company’s flagship mobile device management and wireless infrastructure management software. Wavelink Avalanche 5.0 provides a comprehensive, vendor-agnostic management solution for the wireless enterprise with newly added capabilities such as device location mapping, additional WWAN enhancements, security compliance tools and a new web-based console.

Wavelink Avalanche provides centralized configuration, deployment and management of mobile devices and wireless infrastructure that works seamlessly across local and wide area networks. It improves the productivity of mobile workers, increases network security, and reduces the total cost associated with owning and managing mobile devices and peripherals.

“We have developed Wavelink Avalanche to provide the most complete management solution on the market, regardless of network type or device manufacturer,” said Lamar Van Wagenen, CEO of Wavelink. “With the upcoming release of Avalanche 5.0, we are both strengthening the existing feature set, while adding new innovations such as device mapping and tracking. This upgrade reflects our commitment to meeting the needs of our customers and providing them with superior products and service.”

With newly added location-based services, organizations can view detailed information regarding the current and past location of devices being managed and how they are being used. The client gathers GPS information, including latitude, longitude, heading and speed, and the location of devices is then provided in a worldwide, Web-based map with street-level views. When GPS is unavailable, Avalanche can even provide location information based on cell tower associations.

In addition to device location mapping, Wavelink Avalanche 5.0 includes new features such as:

  • Two-way messaging functionality allows for easy, convenient communication between the management console and the device.
  • Security and PCI compliance enhancements add even stronger encryption in more places. This bolsters the ability Wavelink has already had to ensure that both mobile devices and wireless infrastructure are following policy guidelines in accordance with the PCI specification.
  • An easy-to-use redesigned user interface in a web-based management console that is accessed via a standard browser and requires no local installation.
  • Further WWAN enhancements that strengthen and extend the existing capabilities of Avalanche to manage devices outside the four walls.
  • Wireless infrastructure heat maps where predicted wireless coverage and device locations can be displayed on a floorplan diagram.
