He added, “Starting with the least charge of Rs 5 per channel per month, subscribers can get access to up to 49 channels on web provided under this service. The data transferred, however, would be charged on the basis of their tariff.”

The pricing is currently available in three different subscription options Rs.5 per channel per month; Rs.29 per month for My Combo (a bouquet of 10 channels); and Rs.75 per month for all channels. The new subscribers of Photon TV will get a software to download on their systems, while the existing ones can download it from the Tata website without any charge.

Claiming their leadership position in the wireless broadband service, Tata Teleservices expects to beat the competition further down.

Khera added, “Tata Teleservices has always been a pioneer in terms of adding value to the mobile communications experience in India – we added value to the way people talk by introducing the Pay Per Use (TATA DOCOMO) and Pay Per Call (Tata Indicom) concepts in India. Now, we have moved mobility another few giant steps along the evolutionary path, with the launch of Photon TV today.”

According to Khera, the company enjoys more than 50 per cent market share in all the 70 cities it operates in, and would continue that comfortably, while the competition is still preparing for such launch.

“In Karnataka alone, we operate in five cities namely Bangalore, Hubli, Mangalore, Mysore and Bellary with Photon base of around 50,000 users. We expect to convert this number to our Photon TV users.”

The company is working with Hyderabad-based Apalya Technologies, a pioneer in developing and enabling mobile video delivery platforms as technology partner in providing the service.
