As per media reports, Singapore based U2opia Mobile, a provider of solutions that enables search, discovery and transactions of Mobile and Internet virtual goods has built a new application for mobile phones that will allow users to access Facebook on all kind of handsets without connecting to internet.

"We are using USSD technology, which will enable users to access Facebook without having a GPRS connection on their phones.," quoted PTI, Sumesh Menon, the co-founder and CEO of U2Opia Mobile as saying.

Unstructured Supplementary Service Data (USSD) is a protocol used by GSM cellular telephones to communicate with the service provider's computers.

USSD can be used for WAP browsing, prepaid callback service, mobile-money services, location-based content services, menu-based information services, and as part of configuring the phone on the network.

U2opia launched this application on Tuesday with Indian telecom major Bharti Airtel.
