NEW DELHI: Computer Associates International, Inc. (CA) has announced that
VSNL has implemented Unicenter, CA's family of award-winning eBusiness
infrastructure management solutions, to monitor and control its increasingly
complex nationwide IT environment, ensuring the stability, availability and
performance of its critical business applications and IT infrastructure.
VSNL is the sole provider of international telephony for India. It operates a
large, sophisticated network of earth stations, switches, underwater cable
systems, and service nodes to provide a wide range of basic and value-added
communications services. With its main gateway centers located at Mumbai, New
Delhi, Calcutta and Chennai, VSNL operates 29 offices across India. The
company's IT infrastructure includes 1500 desktops and IBM, Compaq and HP
servers connected via routers attached to 64 kbps leased lines.
The 24x7 availability of its IT infrastructure became a critical
consideration as VSNL migrated to automated billing and settlement systems,
which made the company even more dependent on the proper functioning of its
network, systems and database infrastructure. VSNL also needed to improve the
