Volvo IT unveils new command center in Bangalore

BANGALORE, INDIA: Volvo IT, a Volvo group company with a mission to create business value through IT, inaugurated its new global command center here today. By creating one central organization for service monitoring in Bangalore, Volvo IT has achieved increased economies of scale and can offer the Volvo Group and other customers a unified, global picture of the performance of their most important computer systems. Using state-of-the-art tools, the staff at the command center will be working round the clock to serve their global customers.

In less than a year, Volvo IT has transferred the task of monitoring computer systems from seventeen locations in different countries to Bangalore.

On the surface, the new facilities look very much like a space control center, with system alerts displayed on several 80-inch wide-screen monitors that together form one gigantic screen.

An office space has been converted into a facility that can host 40 operators seated theater style. The operators have received extensive training in ways of rapidly handling any system or network issue, preferably before users notice any problem with the system.

“Volvo IT India will play an even more important role in the future as a part of our 'rightsourcing strategy' which means consolidating IT specialist skills from different locations to create an optimized and global organization for production of IT services. We will recruit people and work closely with our partners and suppliers in India to drive this development,” says Satish Rajkumar, head of Volvo IT India.

Volvo IT was established in India since 2004 and Volvo IT India currently employs 120 employees and 400 contractors in Bangalore.
