CHENNAI: Rather than holding your telephone to reach out to any concerned person, how about sending your voice in an email format. This is exactly what SEBI has added on to its website.

Login to the website and you will come across ‘record voice mail’ icon, where you can directly mail your voice to the respective heads of FII and custodians, acquisitions and takeover or the communications department at SEBI.

Chennai-based, Voice Snap Software Ltd, is the mastermind behind this software, that allows users to send their voice wrapped in any valid email id. The uniqueness of this program is that users can send message in the language of their choice rather than typing them out in English. In short, instead of typing a text you can just speak through the mail.

This voice-enabled email is available in two flavors–VS2 (for home users) and VSlite (corporates). Ganesh Padmanabhan, the brain behind this endeavor, feels that though email is a killer application, people in India are not confident of using it. "Firstly they are not confident in English, and secondly email involves typing. Voice Snap surpasses these hindrances and users can send in message in their language without even typing it," adds Padmanabhan.

The other USP for this software, according to Ganesh is that the voice doesn’t end with the speech, instead it keeps a record in your mailbox. "In telephone, the voice is limited only till the conversation lasts. As our solution comes in an email format we have a record of the voice in our inbox. Unlike a chat or telephonic talk, we need a listener at the other end. Here you just need to send your voice, exactly like an email, without the need of a receiver." The company claims that a call via Voice Snap costs one paise per minute to any part of the world.

To get going with Voice Snap, a home user needs to buy a pre-paid card, which would soon be available through all retail shops. Priced at Rs 99, this pre-paid card has avalidity of 45 days. Besides the users can also opt for the online payment option of Rs 1200 per annum. The VSLite, or the corporate package comes at a one-time registration cost of Rs 30,000 (plus taxes).

To begin with, the company sees every PC user as the potential customer of its services and has tied up with Dishnet for bundling their software along with their dial up. Similarly, the company is looking for tie-ups with vendors like HCL, Acer and LG to bundle its Voice Snap along with the hardware.
