“At Vodafone, we care for your security. If you receive a missed call from an unidentified number starting +92, do not call back or divulge any personal details,” the SMS stated.

But it is still unknown whether the any subscribers of Vodafone was getting missed calls from unidentified number starting ‘+92’ or any subscriber complaint to company for getting missed calls from unidentified number starting ‘+92’.

The number ‘+92’ is the international standard dialing code of Pakistan and there’s a possibility of terror suspects attempting to make calls to mobile users in Mumbai and other parts of the country.

So far the company has not given any official statement on this. Though CIOL tried to get a statement from Vodafone as to what made the service provider to send such an alert, there was no response from their side.

Vodafone Essar is the Indian subsidiary of Vodafone Group and commenced operations in 1994 when its predecessor Hutchison Telecom acquired the cellular license for Mumbai. The company now has operations across the country with over 91.40 million customers by the end of December 2009.
