VMware names Richard McAniff as executive VP

BANGALORE, INDIA: VMware, Inc., a provider in virtualization solutions from the desktop to the datacenter, today announced the appointment of Richard McAniff as executive vice president and chief development officer.

McAniff would report directly to president and chief executive officer Paul Maritz, said a press release. In his new role, McAniff would be responsible for research and development across VMware’s Server and Desktop Business Units.

"I am pleased to welcome Richard to VMware at a time when the company is poised to expand its technology leadership even farther ahead with its upcoming VMware vSphere generation of products,” said Paul Maritz.

He added that, as a new leader of their R&D organization, Richard would bring deep experience in developing industry-leading software. He would play a crucial role in driving product engineering efforts that would help drive and grow their business.

“From the introduction of VMware Workstation in 1999 to giving customers a clear path to cloud computing, VMware has clearly established itself as an innovation leader,” said McAniff.

In his new role, he said, he would focus on continuing the development of the innovative technologies and quality products that customers have come to expect from VMware.

Prior to joining VMware McAniff was associated with Microsoft as corporate vice president for Microsoft Office.

McAniff holds a master's degree in systems and industrial engineering from the University of Arizona, a master's degree in resource economics from the University of Massachusetts, and a bachelor of science degree in economics from the University of Massachusetts, the release added.
