HYDERABAD: Virtusa Corporation co-founder Tushara Canekeratne has been named
`Woman Entrepreneur of 2005' by the Women's Chamber of Commerce (WCIC) in Sri
Lanka.
Canekeratne also won the gold medal in the large business category in the
biennial awards.
She was instrumental in Virtusa's recent CMMi Certification Process in Asia. The
software development and IT services company achieved the certification in
record time. As EVP Global Technical Operations for the past 10 years, she was
responsible for the delivery of global services including the company's
Productization Methodology, Process, Engineering, Quality and Operational
Excellence strategies.
Before Virtusa, Canekeratne was part of the founding team at INSCI Corporation,
a document and archival management company. At INSCI, the product developed by
her got the Product of the Year award in 1997 by the Association of Imaging and
Information Management and Imaging Magazine.
"I am deeply honored to receive this award. This achievement is a true
reflection of the dedication and commitment of the Virtusans who have built a
world-class company with an
extraordinary culture of excellence," said Canekeratne.
Canekeratne, who began her career with leading Wall Street companies, is at
present a Practitioner of the MIT Sloan School of Management and a Member of the
Board of Trustees of Fay School, the oldest junior boarding school in the USA.
The WCIC was introduced in 1985 to promote the special interests of women
entrepreneurs in Sri Lanka.
