NEW DELHI: US-based Vignette Corp is setting up a development center in
Gurgaon at an investment of $2 million. Over the next five years, the investment
is expected to increase to $15 million. The center, which will focus on
developing Internet-related technologies is the only Vignette development center
outside the US. The 34,000 sq. ft. facility will employ about 100 professionals
by the end of this year.
"Our major investment will be on manpower. With countries like the US,
Germany, the UK and Japan all eyeing the same pool of manpower, we shall have a
tough job finding the right people and retaining them," says Vignette,
South Asia managing director Raj Acharya. However, according to senior vice
president for engineering Calvin Killen, "The attrition rate of the company
in the US is one per cent since we not only hire the best people in the
industry, we also provide the best environment for people to work for."
While Vignette India shall concentrate on building the Indian market and on
marketing efforts, the development center will be under the aegis of its global
operations.
Recently, Vignette had announced the setting up of its wholly owned
subsidiary in India. Vignette’s products enable Internet businesses to create
and extend relationships with prospects and customers and ease transaction
exchanges with suppliers and partners. It has products for content management, a
Web-based application and an e-business platform, V/5 that enables rapid
reconfiguration and integration across multiple touch-points. The V5 platform
equips businesses with a unified view across multiple customers, partners,
suppliers, products and interactions providing companies with vital clues about
the usage patterns on the Net and enabling better customer relationship. The
company registered a global turnover of $120 million during 1999 and expects to
touch $270 million this year.
