Videocon Telecom to bid for 900 Mhz license for Delhi

NEW DELHI, INDIA: Videocon Telecom, the telecommunication arm of the $4 Billion Videocon Group, now seeks to re-establish itself as a strategic national telecom player and is planning to bid in the upcoming licence auction.

Videocon Telecom has recently made a comeback into the Telecom industry and has a strategic presence across the Northern corridor of the country forming the Hindi speaking belt.

The telecom company said, "It has almost doubled its Network presence in the four operating circles including Punjab & is all set to rollout the remaining three circles within the next 12 months."

Videocon Telecom finds the sharp cut in the reserve spectrum floor price for the 900 Mhz spectrum to be very attractive and is seeing it as a big opportunity. The brand is evaluating to bid for the 900 Mhz license in Delhi in the upcoming Jan'14 auction.

The brand has appointed Deloitte to evaluate the opportunity & present a business case on the same.

Videocon Telecom is also seeing huge opportunity in the liberalized license regime and talks about unleashing the data opportunity in the telecom circle of Delhi NCR in a big way, where the 900 Mhz spectrum will be the most efficient spectrum for a densely populated city like Delhi NCR.

Arvind Bali, director and CEO, Videocon Telecom said: "The sharp cut in the floor price for 900 Mhz spectrum is very attractive, and particularly for Delhi telecom circle it makes a very lucrative business case. Delhi telecom circle is of an utmost importance to us, both strategically and potentially, and the fact the Delhi license will be available on 900 Mhz spectrum completely fits in our strategic framework."

"900 Mhz is a much more efficient spectrum and the fact that the liberalized license regime allows you to offer next generation data service makes it even more lucrative," added Bali.

"All these factors make it a no brainer. We are keen to participate in the upcoming auction and bid for the 900 Mhz license for Delhi, and we have appointed one of the leading consulting firms Deloitte to evaluate and present to us a Business Case for the same," he added.
