Videocon, India’s largest consumer electronics group, had exhibited a keen interest in the device and was marketing PC Slate using its vast network of dealers. The acquisition of the technology marks a radical new step for Videocon, as it will allow the group to foray into the cutting edge handheld devices market. It follows the recent decision of the group to enter this burgeoning segment and produce state-of-the-art technology products of its own.

The group has ambitious plans for this class of products and, according to V N Dhoot, chairman, Videocon Group, these products will be key growth drivers in future. The deal with Skorydov Systems will ensure that all designs and specifications of the product will be transferred to the Videocon Group.

Dhoot said that the group plans to set up a state-of-the-art research centre to further develop the PC Slate technology as well as other new technologies.

Internationally, experts predict tablet PC as the next wave of computing. IT giants like Microsoft, Acer and HP have earmarked millions of dollars for the development and marketing of tablet PCs.
