NEW DELHI, INDIA: For social media biggies like Google and Yahoo, it's time to cheer! The reason is obvious. Buoyed over the continued growth in video content over social networks, it would be the next big revenue stream for them.
A Consumer Electronics Association study says that 53 per cent of people online in the US watch videos. The scenario in India is not different either. Perhaps bandwidth is one of the constraints in video streaming.
Natesh Mani, president, commercial and consumer business at Sify India citing the example of Kolaveri Di on YouTube, said that video on social media is the way forward.
''Building brand with social media has become imperative today. The need is to deliver right content'' he said. Mani also feels that bandwidth is an issue in the country.
Rajan Anandan, MD Google India said that YouTube will be bigger than MTV in India by the end of this year. With 5 million unique visitors a day on YouTube, he sees huge video opportunity in India.
''The year is going to be the year of videos,'' Anandan stressed.
Dippak Khurana, co-founder and CEO of Vserv Digital said that people are building capabilities to leverage mobile applications and video growth would be immense.
Upen Rai, director at Times Internet believes that video has humongous opportunity. Mariam Mathew, CEO of Manorama Online, believes that vernacular language over the Internet and mobile would grow in 2012.
