NEW YORK, USA: Verizon Communications is tweaking its prices, starting on Monday, to give consumers more flexibility on combining television, Internet and telephone packages in a bid to better compete against its cable rivals.

Verizon is looking to add customers to its FiOS service, which costs about $23 billion to build and faces stiff competition from cable providers such as Comcast Corp and Time Warner Cable. They all provide bundles of TV, Internet and telephone services.

Verizon's basic service bundle costs $99.99 for 233 TV channels and Internet download speeds of 15 megabits per second (mbps) and telephone service.

From Monday, consumers will be able to tweak this plan, with emphasis on the services that matter most to them.

For example, a $99.99 customer could pay $10 extra a month for an Internet speed increase to 35 mbps, a speed currently included only in the $129 service bundle, creating a saving of $20, Verizon said.

Or customers who care more about TV could keep the lower Internet speed, but pay $10 a month extra to increase their TV choices to 324 channels, currently available only in the $114.99 service package.
