BANGALORE: VeriFone, a division of Hewlett-Packard Company, and @pos.com,

Inc., engaged in Web-enabling the point of sale, have announced a strategic

alliance to deliver retailers an interactive solution that combines e-services

and e-payment at the point of sale.

The integrated offering will empower retailers to conduct one-on-one

marketing, presenting ads and promotions on the screen of a Web-enabled payment

device at the point of sale. The ads and promotions displayed on the terminal

screen will be tailored to match the customer's specific tastes, increasing the

opportunity to generate additional sales and enhance customer satisfaction.

Criteria for the real-time promotions will be based on items being purchased and

on the customer's purchase history.

As part of HP's e-services strategy, VeriFone will be licensed to

manufacture, sell and support Internet-enabled payment solutions based on

@pos.com technology. @pos.com will offer a full suite of electronic services,

including real-time personalized advertising and customer surveys, an electronic

receipt service for merchants, and a Web site where consumers can store and

manage their receipts.

"The alliance with VeriFone brings outstanding benefits to customers and

provides us with two tremendous advantages," said Aziz Valliani, president

and chief executive officer at @pos.com. "First, VeriFone's manufacturing,

marketing and support resources allow us to devote our full energy to advancing

our technology and the services it enables. Second, no other vendor delivers

electronic payment solutions to as many countries as VeriFone, and we look

forward to working together to Web-enabled points of sale worldwide."

VeriFone will extend the @pos.com technology and services by integrating them

with VeriFone payment software, implementation and deployment services,

financing and leasing options, and network consulting. VeriFone plans to offer

this solution to its extensive base of customers within the small-business

market and the petroleum and convenience--store industries.
