BURLINGTON, USA: Veracode, Inc., a leading player in application security, has announced that AirWatch will integrate Veracode's Mobile Application Reputation Service (MARS) capabilities with the company's enterprise mobility management (EMM) solution. The combined solution will protect enterprises and mobile app users from vulnerable, risky and malicious mobile applications.

According to Gartner: "Today, more than 90 pc of enterprises use third-party commercial applications for their mobile BYOD strategies, and this is where current major application security testing efforts should be applied. App stores are filled with applications classified by categories such as business, social and entertainment, which mostly prove their advertised usefulness. Nevertheless, enterprises and individuals should not use them without paying attention to their security. They should download and use only those applications that have successfully passed security tests conducted by specialized application security testing vendors. We do not expect that enterprises or individuals will be able to test even a small portion of those applications, but they should be reviewing the results of tests conducted by specialized vendors and making download and purchasing decisions based on those results."

Third-party apps installed on mobile devices can gain device permissions, conduct transactions and export data, all without the users' knowledge or consent. For example, Veracode analysis shows that 91pc of the top mobile apps expose users' identity information. These apps' behavior creates an inherent security risk for the enterprise as customer or corporate data could be compromised.

Through this partnership, companies will be able to use Veracode MARS's actionable app intelligence to inform their BYOD policies. These policies can be created by using AirWatch's compliance engine to set up rules based on intelligence provided by Veracode.

"Enterprises enabling employees with mobility must also keep corporate data and content in applications secure," said Kevin Keith, director of business development, AirWatch. "Our partnership and planned integration with Veracode will empower mutual customers with a highly secure mobile platform that also provides a seamless end user experience."
