VELLORE, INDIA: In a bid to upgrade the standards of the organized traders in the region, Vellore Association of IT (VAIT) has started partner welfare programs to ensure maximum profitability in the region. VAIT is looking forward to improving the value of its partners by offering various schemes and programs that would escalate them to the next level in trade. Besides trading in IT products, traders in the region have started dealing in office automation products and HR solutions in a bid to improve the value of the services provided by them.

"Competition is increasing day-by-day and the number of unorganized players has started increasing in the arena. There are 35 organized players in the association. We wanted to be unique in terms of quality, service and effectiveness. So we started selling other products like office automation products, besides selling hardware equipments, which are on the boom and mutually beneficial to both customers and traders," said C Suresh Babu, President, VAIT.

Babu felt that unity among partners is one of the major achievements of VAIT. "Here the competition lies in providing more enhanced support to customers rather than competing for a single project. There is a mutual understanding between all the partners and we are working more in a humanity conscious mode," he claimed. The association is scouting for a personalized building for their partners to hold cultural, recreation programs, meetings etc. Along with that, the association is also working for the partners to gain more benefits, as margins are still very low.

Seeing the boom in the number of small and medium businesses (SMBs) coming up, traders have taken measures to attract business. "Our traders have started to cater to all divisions ranging from home segments to high-level enterprises. There is a need for partners to improve their business and management skills. So we have started seminars in our monthly meeting that would address how to manage these tasks," Babu informed.

With industrial areas like Ranipet, adjacent to Vellore, starting to automate their needs, more IT investments have started to float into the region. This in turn is driving Vellore traders to scale their capabilities.

VAIT holds regular meetings every month. The meeting consists of an open forum, seminars and presentations. Babu shared that the association has also proposed to start seminars on stress management. The welfare schemes include family activities too. When a member is celebrating an occasion, VAIT complements them by giving them gifts as a relationship building exercise. "In VAIT, we regularly arrange for casual outings and have discussions on business and developments. These kind of outings allow us to have one-on-one interactions," he added.
