For the company in 1998-99, while telecom
products and software contributed
Rs 22.40 crore, datacom and internetworking products
brought in Rs 73.64 crore. Integration revenues wereworth Rs 10 crore. The bulk of its
revenues came from communication software exports which was Rs 148.26
crore. The total
revenues of Rs 267.80 crore do not include the revenue from WiproNet, which has been
carved out as a separate entity.
The company has partnerships that enable it
as a value-added reseller, offering the customer multi-vendor solutions. It has alliances
with Cisco, Nortel, Newbridge, Lucent, and 3Com to name a few. On the services front, it
offers systems integration, manages facilities, VAN services, and support services
broadly.
Another important factor, which also drives
its success as one-stop solution provider is its alliances. For communications and
Internet services, it has Newbridge and Cisco for hubs, switches, and routers; Micom for
voice-data multiplexers; NET for high-end bandwidth management products; PictureTel for
videoconferencing solutions; BT for VSATs; Motorola for value-added network services;
Lucent technologies for structured cabling; and Wipro’s Communication Peripherals
Division (CPD) for remote access products. Since 1997-98, it has been focusing on
interoperability solutions to cater to the needs of datacom and telecom industries.
The company’s success in telecom
solutions is because of its telecom applications that encompass billing, customer care,
mediation, fraud management, and provisioning. And, in the Indian market, it is preferred
over the others because of its ability to provide a one-stop comprehensive solution to the
operators. The company bagged major integration orders including the Rs 6.5 crore order
for solutions based on Cisco routers for voice data networks from ICICI, Rs 6.0 crore
Escotel WAN, network infrastructure order from ONGC, IOCL, and Titan. It also bagged a Rs
10 crore order from VSNL for the latter’s implementation of ISP web server and
billing solution, DoT Bhopal order for TR billing, and many more.
For Wipro, ISP is a niche area. Its
Internet and Intranet solutions are built around technologies from Sun Micro Systems,
Netscape, Cisco, Motorola, Wipro Acer, and Check Point, among others. And it offers
turnkey solutions for Internet access, publishing, and intranets. Major customers include
VSNL and Rediffusion.
The company, has established a customer
base that relies on its expertise and experience and in the emerging markets it will be
the one to watch out for
