Uttaranchal next IT destination

DEHRADUN: Developing Software Industry in the country is the best way to generate employment opportunity in the country, Union Minister for Communications and Information Technology Dayanidhi Maran said, while delivering an inaugural address of the Software Technology Park of India (STPI) Incubation Centre at IT Park in Dehradun on Tuesday.

"The Government should work as catalyst in creating infrastructure for the software industries that would generate employment opportunity," he added.

In this context, he said that India was regarded as the premier destination for the global sourcing of IT and IT enabled services, and added that there was great future in software industry. “India now accounts for 65 per cent of the global market in off-shore IT and 46 per cent of ITES market,” Maran informed.

"The growth of the sector has led to tremendous pay offs in terms of wealth creation and generation of high quality employment," he said, adding that the growth in software sector has increased by 30 per cent and that in Telecom sector by 40 per cent in the country.

Congratulating Uttaranchal Chief Minister N D Tiwari, Maran said the State with more than 70 per cent literacy, best educational institutions and infrastructures, has a potential to become another IT Hub in the country like Bangalore.

Assuring the Chief Minister of opening STPI Incubation Centers in Roorkee and Pant Nagar very shortly, Maran urged the Union Minister of State for Commerce and Industry Jairam Ramesh, present on the occasion, to convince big brands in the IT sector to come to Uttaranchal, as that would make a great difference.

Jairam Ramesh said the Center was taking keen interest in developing connectivity in Uttaranchal be it air, railway or road.

Tiwari emphasizing on the technical education, he said the new employment opportunities lie in technical education and qualitative education. He also announced Rs 10 crores for setting up another ITI in the State.
