UTStarcom eyes more revenue from India

NEW DELHI, INDIA: Global telecommunication solution provider UTStarcom Inc. is targeting 10 per cent contribution from India to its global revenues.

UTStarcom has recently announced a deal with Bharti Airtel to offer the solution for offering Internet Protocol Television (IPTV).

With the IPTV market in India at a nascent stage, operators are keenly deploying IPTV solutions for offering solution providers an edge to increase their market share.

Vijay Yadav, managing director, South Asia UTStarcom said that the company is expecting huge growth in the Indian market with the launch of IPTV services.

“Currently the India market contributes around $150 million to our global shares. Our global shares stand at $2.7 billion. With the growth in the IPTV market in India we are expecting huge growth,” he said.

Currently India contributes 5.5 percent to the global revenues of the company.

“We are expecting 10 per cent revenue contribution from India in the next 2-3 years. We are optimistic that IPTV will boost our revenue share in India,” Yadav said.

However, on deals with any wireline company to offer IPTV services, Yadav said that they are in to talks with majority of service providers. “We in talks with most of them. We are already carrying out a number of trials with the operators. However, we officially are not in a position to disclose anything about the deals now.”

Currently, State-owned PSU Mahanagar Telephone Nigam Limited (MTNL) is offering IPTV in Mumbai and Delhi. The PSU has stuck up a deal with Aksh Opticfibre to offer this service to its customers on the broadband connection. Withstanding the competition Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) and Reliance is also in the fray to launch the services.
