NEW DELHI: National Association of Software & Service Companies (Nasscom),
has announced that the Nasscom-BCG study projects a $9 billion business
opportunity for Indian IT companies from global e-solutions services market by
2005. The domestic market for e-solutions is expected to grow from a base of $65
million in 2000 to $500 million in 2005. The detailed findings of the report
will be released at E-biz India 2001, a national conference on E-commerce and
E-Business to be held at Bangalore from August 2-3, 2001.
The theme of the Nasscom-BCG report is "Imperatives for India Inc. to
harness the E-commerce opportunity". The report, for the first time,
provides an in-depth analysis of e-commerce adoption within various industry
verticals and guidelines for industry CEOs, IT industry and the government to
effectively exploit these opportunities.
Elaborating on the findings Nasscom chairman Phiroz Vandrevala said, "In
order to capture the e-solution services opportunity, Indian IT companies will
need to build domain expertise in select industry verticals or product
applications. They will also need to modify their marketing and implementation
approach to suit sales processes of e-solutions."
The worldwide market for e-solutions products and services, estimated at US
$180 billion in 2000, is expected to grow to US $640 billion by 2005. Customer
Relationship Management (CRM) and Supply Chain Management (SCM) solutions
account for 70 per cent of e-solutions spending with over 50 per cent of the
market concentrated in North America.
Elaborating on the summit focus Vandrevala, said, "The report has
revealed that while the Indian industry is mobilizing to build capabilities for
e-commerce, there are vast differences amongst players on their understanding of
e-commerce benefits and their readiness to capture the opportunity. E-biz India
2001 will provide focused sessions that offer realistic solutions and
decision-making insights to industry CEOs enabling them to maximize benefits
from e-commerce investments."
Some of the prominent speakers at the two-day summit will include amongst
others Yutaka Mizukoshi, Vice President and Director, BCG Japan, an expert in 3G
applications, ISP implementation and mobile commerce, Arthur Chang, Managing
Director, Asia Pacific, VeriSign Inc. who envisioned the Electronic Information
Superhighway by catalyzing development of online-related services, Arthur
Kipferler, Vice President, BCG's global automotive practice, David Gilmour, Vice
President BCG Australia who will focus on how Indian companies can transform
themselves into world class product firms.
