Cathy Clausen, Sr. general manager of Client Services, who completed the testing, said, “We have the knowledge and experience to know when a transaction is right, but we did not want to cut corners, and we made this achievement a key milestone in our project plan.”

She further added, ”The history with our legacy application was huge advantage, but to tie that functionality to our existing eCustoms suite that files entries in Canada, India, Singapore, and Europe with the same basic flow and user experience was an exciting challenge and what makes the application uniquely 4S’.”

Phil Pearse, 4S' functional design architect for the project, said, “The US Customs clearance market is certainly one of the most demanding and sophisticated in the world and the whole eCustoms team has worked wonders to build the application so quickly - I don’t think anyone has ever designed, built, and successfully tested a US Customs ABI system in less than one year, and that is exactly what we have just accomplished.”

According to CBP, any software application that interfaces with the US Customs & Border Protection ABI application to file Customs entries must pass a certification test defined by CBP. For software vendors, this entails a rigorous exercise that tests both the software and the user to apply the complex business and regulatory rules to report the value, origin, duty obligations, and other details for 100 unique importation scenarios.
