PUNE: Saama Technologies Inc., a US-based consulting and technology services company, is setting up a wholly owned subsidiary in Pune. Saama Technologies is a consulting and systems integration company with a focus on Business intelligence (BI) for enterprises and outsourcing services (unisite model , i.e. for software product companies).

The company is investing $ five million over the next three years for expanding its Indian operations. Founder and CEO, Suresh Katta said that the company has shifted its existing development center from Mumbai to Pune. The company plans to increase its strength from 100 to 250 in a year's time.

Another US company SSPS Inc, a 35-year-old software services company focusing on the analytics space has chosen Saama to enter the Indian market. SSPS Inc. executive VP and CTO Jonathan Otterstatter said that the company has nine laboratories across the globe working in the area of BI.

"However, we do not think it is worthwhile to set up a separate facility in India and have therefore chosen this route to enter this market," he added. The company has labs in Minnesota, Chicago, Massachusetts, Paris, Kilburn, Dallas and Copenhagen among others.

"The software development and support center in Pune will work on all aspects of product development including development testing and customer support for software products and solutions spanning enterprise, systems, applications and databases. In short, everything from data to the dashboard will be done from here," Katta said.

Saama has served over 140 customers including Cisco, Gap, William-Sonoma, Brocade, Veritas and Flextronics. Asked if they were looking at the Indian market, Katta replied that the Indian market was not yet ready for analytics and is still in the process of starting transaction systems.
