WASHINGTON: The US Senate's approval of a Bill on Thursday that would give
citizenship to millions of illegal immigrants and double the number of H1-B
visas from the present 65,000 to about 115,000 is widely expected to benefit
many Indian software professionals.
The Bill has also provision for increasing H1-B visas by 20 per cent increase
on an annual basis.
Many companies including Microsoft and Intel have been pressurizing the US
government raise the cap on H1-B visas and allow more skilled workers into the
country. They had even threatened to move jobs abroad if it does not increase
the H1-B visas.
