“The SBRT license is a huge vote of confidence and encouragement from the government to young, Indian companies like ours,” Ashish Goel, chief executive, Urban Ladder told ET. “This license helps us at Urban Ladder build a brand that can pursue its ambitions as well as help shape the economy impactfully.” He further added that the license will give Urban Ladder the necessary push in becoming India's most loved brand.

Urban Ladder had applied for the single brand licence in September last year when it announced a shift in its business model from online retail to a furniture brand. The company also launched its first experience centre in Bangalore recently, which will now be converted into an offline retail store.

Customers have always associated Urban Ladder with great design and seamless shopping experience. With the new license, the furniture marketplace will optimize many key functions under the SBRT guidelines and build its offline retail presence across the country. It will also give Urban Ladder more flexibility with its designs and product sourcing along with tightening its supply chain and maintaining healthy inventory.

Urban Ladder will also leverage the license to make digital transactions without relying on third-party sellers.
