UP's pilot e-district scheme successful, centre approves it

UTTAR PRADESH, INDIA: After the implementation of a pilot e-district scheme was successful in six districts of Uttar Pradesh, the Centre has decided to roll out the scheme in the remaining 69 districts of UP.

The e-district scheme has been implemented under the National E-governance Plan and the Centre has approved an additional Rs 173.39 crore. For this, the UP government has to furnish a detailed project report.

The pilot e-district project which had started in 2007-08 was implemented in Sitapur, Rae Bareli, Sultanpur, Gorakhpur, Gautam Budh Nagar and Ghaziabad. Under the project, 22 government services offered by nine departments were provided through an electronic service delivery system at Service Centres and Lokvani Kendras set up in the districts.

Inorder to give shape to the roll out plan in the remaining districts of UP, Chief Secretary, Jawed Usmani met the departmental heads. Following the meeting, the committee will now issue instructions for readying infrastructure and hardware facilities across districts and tehsils where the project will be implemented.

During the process of implementation, technical education will also be imparted to district and tehsil officials.
