This is a rise of more than 46 per cent from the NT$1.57 billion recorded in 2009. The figures were from an internal estimate of the company.

The company is expected to start volume shipments of power management (PWM) ICs to the DSC and flat panel makers in the third quarter. This is in addition to its existing clients who include makers in the graphics card, motherboard and notebook segments.

The company is facing legal procedures to protect its rights in a patent lawsuit that involves a rival company Richtek Technology both in California and Taipei. Sources at the company say that the procedures will continue, although it has recently applied for a consent order requesting the US International Trade Commission (ITC) to close the investigation into the dispute between the two companies.

In an earlier announcement, uPI had revealed plans to distribute a stock dividend of NT$4 for 2009.
