“Buildings that have this service are typically referred to as ‘lit,’” explains Science Center President & CEO Stephen S. Tang, Ph.D. “We are proud to light up Philadelphia’s Avenue of Technology along Market Street as we add to the value we offer our existing and future residents.”

It is claimed in a press note, that the high-capacity connection by Cogent Communication provides speeds of 100 Mbps to each tenant; up to 20 times higher than traditional broadband Internet speeds. With the recent expansion of service, the Science Center’s buildings at 3711 Market Street and 3624 Market Street now join 3701 Market Street as one of over 1,350 Cogent-powered buildings, it adds.

Currently, Cogent covers traditional tenants in the Science Center buildings at 3711, 3701 and 3624 Market Street. Plans call for the extension of the service to the Science Center’s Port Business Incubators in the future.

Established in 1963 and headquartered in Philadelphia, PA, the Science Center was the first, and remains the largest, urban research park in the United States, as the release adds. The Science Center’s campus in West Philadelphia encompasses 17 acres, 15 buildings and 2 million square feet within a four-block area that is home to 100 companies employing 8,000 people. It entails traditional office and lab space as well as incubators with fully-equipped laboratories and ‘plug n play’ offices for entrepreneurs.
