The unions have lodged a protest against the deal and are asking for consultation on the deal, particularly over the extent of job losses. They said the bank's decisions were made without consultation.

Infosys has been in talks with the bank for a $30 million PeopleSoft maintenance contract. Neither Infosys nor the bank's spokesperson was immediately available for comment.

However, a prominent Australian website said sources close to the deal have confirmed that Infosys is close to signing the deal.

The Indian IT major currently has over 600 employees in Australia.
