NEW DELHI, INDIA: A few months ago, when the iPad launched in the international market, it was all the rage, and a topic of hot conversation for days. After the iPod, the iPad was a much-awaited release, and many a tech-crazy fan ran out and bought it. Aimed at plugging the gap between the smart phone and personal computer, and also taking over business from the Kindle, the iPad perhaps went overboard trying to deliver too much in a very small frame, resulting in network hang-ups, due to bandwidth constraints. That said, the iPad did manage to get more users sharing content, and has encouraged operators to offer more.

Limitless browsing or limited reach?

According to an expert who did not wish to be named, “Despite its limitations of no multi-tasking and no in-built video conferencing facilities, the iPad does extend to consumers more efficient ways of consuming and sharing content. We do not see the iPad making a major impact on the tech savvy smart phone user. We, however, do believe it shall raise broadband usage of those whom the smart phone could not make much head way with. It is thus capable of increasing the broadband consumer base by an impressive percentage.”
