"After 16 years as CEO, Paul Walker has advised the board of his intention to step down in due course," a spokesman said, confirming a story in the Sunday Times newspaper.

He declined to say how long the process might take.

The Sunday Times said Sage had hired headhunters Russell Reynolds Associates to look at internal and external candidates.

Internal candidates include finance director Paul Harrison and Paul Stobart, who runs the group's UK and Ireland business, the newspaper said.
