UK granny wins record online fruit machine jackpot

LONDON: A 64-year-old British grandmother has won the 196,000 pounds ($360,000) jackpot on an online fruit machine by betting just 40 pence (73 cents).

Betting company Coral reported the win on Friday and said the payout to retired post office worker Rita Driscoll was the biggest it had ever made for an online bet.

Driscoll, from the town of South Ockendon in southeast England, said she started using the online fruit machine as she always played slot machines on holiday in Portugal.

"My husband always says that I have lucky hands but my biggest win till now was just 1,300 pounds at bingo," she said.

She hit the jackpot on Thursday night, logging onto her computer after her husband and son had gone to bed, Coral said.

"I was shaking when I realised how much I'd won," Driscoll said. "We are going on holiday to celebrate and I'm going to look after all my family with the winnings."
