UIDAI intros Aadhaar authentication API

BANGALORE, INDIA: The UIDAI today released its Aadhaar Authentication Application Programming Interface (API), which contains API data format, protocol and security specifications.

The objective of this developer track was to educate developer and architect community on the entire Aadhaar Technology Platform, and it’s Enrollment, De-duplication and Authentication Solutions, various Biometric Device and solution innovations around Aadhaar, and its various APIs, said a press release.

The Developer track had Presentations and Demos by technology experts from UIDAI and Industry.

The conference brought together stakeholders from various governments, public and private sector enterprises across verticals like eGov, banking, telecom, education and health and their technology partners, to discuss and demonstrate how Aadhaar Identity can be a key enabler for Citizen and Customer service delivery.

The symposium provided an opportunity for technology and solution partners to showcase their products and applications developed for the world’s largest identity platform and accelerate adoption of Aadhaar for identity authentication and verification across a wide variety of application areas, the release added.

Indian IT plays transformative role in supporting UIDAI

The Indian IT Industry is playing a transformative role in supporting UIDAI, to realize its vision of providing a unique Aadhaar number to every resident of India. NASSCOM is taking an active part in enabling and helping the Government in its transformational agenda through the use of technology.

With this objective, NASSCOM is driving initiatives to bring together service providers, delivery agents and technology and solution developers under one roof to share ideas and experiences aiming at accelerating in the adoption of Aadhaar and Aadhaar-based applications, the release added.

eGov in India has witnessed huge impact in the ICT: Nilekani

Nandan Nilekani, chairman, UIDAI, said, “eGovernance in India has witnessed a huge impact in the ICT ecosystem in the past few years. Aadhaar is one such proof. This has been possible through a collaborative approach of the entire ecosystem who have supported Aadhar. We now look forward to new Aadhaar-based opportunity that benefits the common man.”

Som Mittal, president, NASSCOM, said, “eGovernance initiatives at the centre, state, districts, block, and village-level are creating the channel for the Government to build citizen-centric services. These initiatives are entering the next phase of ICT-led governance reforms enabling delivery of government rural schemes, provide access to information and enhance its overall governance and service delivery”.

He added that the kind of impact that benefits of an identity program like UID will have for rural India and for BPL citizens in terms of insurance and health benefits, ration cards, telecom etc. is enormous. The eGovernance initiative in India is now entering its next phase of ICT-led governance reforms.

Mittal added that the Public Private Partnership is an important enabler for realizing the vision of transformed, citizen-centric governance and NASSCOM is building a close partnership with the government and UIDAI to achieve this vision.

The integration of Aadhaar with various resident-centric schemes will help in establishing identity of the individual, improve efficiency and transparency, and ensure the delivery of service itself.

The UIDAI has been closely working with Central Government Ministries and State Governments to facilitate integration of Aadhaar with various citizen-centric schemes and services. Further, there is a need to sensitize the various services-delivery agents (governmental and non-governmental organizations) to integrate Aadhaar for delivering their resident-centric services, the release added.
