UGC Exams: "Students Against State Autonomy"- Students Want All Exams To Be Cancelled

Students tweet #StudentsAgainstStateAutonomy and want all exams cancelled. This includes students from UGC Exams, NEET-JEE, CTET, NDA or any stream.

The students have launched a Twitter campaign with the hashtag #StudentsAgainstStateAutonomy. It includes representation from Varun Sardesai, Aditya Thackeray, Abhishek Singhvi, Maharashtra Students Union. They are appealing to students from all over India to come forward and speak for their education and their future. This includes students from UGC Exams, NEET-JEE, CTET, NDA or any stream.

Some time ago, students stated that they want State autonomy on exams. That is. particular states should decide whether or not to conduct university exams. This time around, they have rejected the idea and want all exams to be cancelled.

The students are demanding uniform code overall exams, and admissions. Further, the Commission has stated it will give another chance to students who will not be able to appear in the examination. When the pandemic is under control, they might get to write exams again.

Are there any changes in UGC Exams Guidelines?

There is no difference in the guidelines issued by the UGC on 22 April 2020 and 6 July 2020. In the guidelines of 22 April, the UGC gave instructions to conduct the examinations till 31 August. Further, in the guidelines of 6 July, it gave the instructions to hold the examinations till 30 September.

Further, when students moved to the Supreme Court, UGC has stated that "only UGC can decide whether or not to conduct exams." It further adds that Universities can't give out degrees without exams; it is a matter of the future/career of students.

The UGC has said that the guidelines are to protect the academic future of students across the country. They will conduct the final year/terminal semester examination, while their health and safety into consideration.

Students across the country stand firm on one plea

Students have firmly stated that they don't want State Autonomy. They are asking for the cancellation of All Exams in India as State Autonomy will be an injustice to other students. They want a uniform code for all exams.
