CIOL Twitter launches TV apps and new customer support service for businesses

Twitter is aggressively pushing to make up for some lost ground in the social networking domain. The micro-blogging site has made two back to back updates to widen its horizons and grow its audience.

On Wednesday, Twitter launched new apps for Apple TV, Amazon Fire TV, and Xbox which will feature the company’s NFL live streams as well as its other live streaming video offerings. This includes video streams from other Twitter partners like the NBA and Bloomberg also. Besides, they will also get access to top Vines and content from Periscopes.

“Twitter has always been a great complement to TV, and now fans can enjoy even more premium video with live Tweets, and the best content on Twitter, right from their TVs. We’re excited to introduce this new experience to people, without requiring a paywall or having to log in to Twitter,” said, Anthony Noto, Chief Financial Officer, Twitter.

Noticeably, one doesn’t need a Twitter account, or even cable or satellite subscriptions to access the High Definition Streams. While that may make tracking and customizing content as per the particular needs of the user more difficult, it will also ensure that a much wider audience is available for content consumption — content that comes from Twitter.

Just a day after this development, the company rolled out a new feature for businesses to make their customer service better and more engaging. As per the new offering, if a business house has a twitter page; it will now be able to tell everyone whether or not they provide customer support through that profile. The option can be toggled by visiting the brand new Customer Support settings page on the Twitter Dashboard website.

Also, visitors to your page will see a larger and much more prominent button for direct message. Businesses can also display their support hours so that customers will know what is the best time to tweet or send a DM in order to receive the speediest assistance.
