Tvdm Technopark kickstarts EDC at Bangalore GCC

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM, INDIA: An entrepreneurship development cell and an extension centre of the Thiruvananthapuram Technopark's technology business incubation (TBI) Centre has been inaugurated at Garden City College (GCC), Bangalore.

Technopark officials said the TBI would extending support to GCC for co-ordinating the effective conduct of the entrepreneurship development activities and also the required expert guidance and mentoring for proper functioning of the T-TBI extension center.

According to K C Chandrasekharan Nair, CFO, Technopark, and secretary-cum-registrar, Technopark TBI, “ The major objective of forming the EDC is to promote innovation and entrepreneurship in the campus and also to exploit and effectively convert the skills and expertise within the institute to create entrepreneurial ventures.

The TBI Extension Centre shall function to incubate the entrepreneurs in Life Sciences and IT and ITeS.”

He pointed out that “Technopark, through the T-TBI EC initiative, shall be creating an ecosystem and a fertile ground that promotes the spirit of innovation and entrepreneurship.”

The start-up companies incubated by GCC will be fully supported by Technopark TBI and will be given an opportunity to graduate into the Technopark incubation facilities for further scaling up.

“We are proud of the fact that we have incubated more than 70 start up technology companies in our incubation facilities in the past five years with a success rate of over 93 per cent, which enabled us to bag the national award for the Best Technology Business Incubator for 2007 instituted by National Science and Technology Entrepreneurship Development Board (NSTEDB) of the Department of Science and Technology,” he said.

Prof V B Coutinho, president- Governing Council, GCC, pointed out that the initiative of establishing an EDC and T-TBI EC at GCC shall be a source motivation to the Students to dream and set their goals higher.

He pointed out the examples of many successful alumni entrepreneurs who built their empire from no where.

About a dozen of alumni entrepreneurs attended the inaugural ceremony and addressed the gathering and enlightened them by sharing their entrepreneurial experiences.

Technopark-TBI aims to identify potential entrepreneurs with innovative ideas in the region through GCC, nurture them through different phases of growth, until the business takes off to a maturity level, where it becomes a financially sustainable venture. For further scaling up, they will be allowed to relocate to Technopark, Trivandrum.

Technopark TBI has identified two start-up companies Catalyz Life Technologies with Biju Jacob as CEO and Dataway Solutions with Vikas Srivastava as CEO for incubating in the T-TBI EC of Garden City College.
