PUNE, INDIA: Customers like a ship manufacturer or  a large steel plant or an aircraft maker, are still untapped and only a few have taken PLM systems so far. As Vignesh Kumar, head, sales, South Asia, Think 3, sees it, "It's an entirely new segment due to the execution time required. The market is very attractive and we need to attack it."

PLM Major Think 3 has already started doing so with customers like Escorts, Koreus and a defence lab in Diggi, Pune.

"This lab is using our software in PLM. Apart from that Escorts Construction that makes escavators and cranes is using it for designs with multiple configurations. Koreus, a major steel plant design player is using it too. One plant itself covers massive projects," Kumar shares.

The relevance of PLM comes in, as such projects run up to a few years and so many documents and standards need to be followed throughout, more so with all drawings to be followed as per the overall technical specifications and standards. PLM or Product Lifecycle Management ties it all together, explains Kumar.

"The total market potential this year is about $100 million and while major players like Siemens or Dassault are already here, we want to position with quickly implementable and affordable systems. The bigger the software, the more difficult is to implement it. The market is big and there is enough space for players."

Think3 links three separate design areas: the concept, its development and the finished product, and offers integrated product development environment for 2D and 3D MCAD design, product lifecycle management (PLM), product data management(PDM), surface and solid modelling for OEMs, with Fiat Auto being a major customer. It has 100 customers so far in India.
