After a recent announcement by Intel and AMD about manufacturing of dual-core chips, most desktops and servers will be running on this new technology, says Reynolds. Reynolds has further urged software developers to 'test and tune' their applications to leverage full benefit of this technology.

For the enterprises Reynolds has recommended that they should replace or recode applications to take advantage of performance boost that dual-core systems can offer, as well as check out vendor licenses for dual-core CPUs.

The way vendors will treat dual-core cannot be predicted at this stage, while Microsoft is supposed to be 'liberal' with them, database giant Oracle may treat 'dual-core' as two separate processors, opined Reynolds.
