MUMBAI: Aditya Birla group BPO venture Transworks intends to strengthen its presence in the Indian market by piggy backing on the Birla group. The company has started to service domestic clients especially for the Aditya Birla group, companies like Birla Sun Life Insurance and Idea Cellular. “This year we have kick started a few domestic projects. We are currently building domain expertise with these projects,” informed Atul Kanwar, CEO, Transworks.

Transworks had been in the news a few months back due to its mega-acquisition in Canada. The company had acquired Minacs Worldwide, a BPO provider, for a sum of $125 M. “The acquisition has been pretty good, as now we can provide our customers a healthy near shore/offshore mix, as Minacs had centers in Canada, U.S. and Europe,” says Kanwar.

The company has two centers in India, namely in Mumbai and Bangalore and is scouting for space in another Tier II city. “We are considering a few options. Pune seems to be a good bet. Opening a center in a city like Pune is great due to the cost savings involved, one can save up to 20 percent in different expenses,” adds Kanwar.

Not only that, Transworks is also looking at expanding its presence through acquisitions in the South Asian region. “We are looking at a few companies in the ASEAN. China is also a big bet,” informs Kanwar.
