NEW DELHI: The telecom regulator is actively considering a drastic cut in Access Deficit Charge (ADC), which is likely to further slash the STD call rates.

The Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) has proposed to reduce the levy paid by private operators to Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) by over Rs 1900 crore.

With this proposal, the ADC quantum to BSNL may come down to Rs 3143 crore annually from existing Rs 5340 crore.

TRAI sources said that the private operators are hopeful about the new ADC regime to be announced by the regulator even after the two telecom PSUs, MTNL and BSNL, have recently announced the OneIndia plan reducing the call rates to Re. 1 per minute.

“The new ADC rates for incoming ISD calls are proposed to be Rs 1.20 per minute from the existing Rs 3.25 while for outgoing ISD calls, the new rates are proposed to be Rs 0.50 a minute from the existing Rs 2.50,” the source added.

However, TRAI officials are meeting this evening to finalise the new ADC regime.
