The empowered group of ministers (EGoM) on Wednesday asked telecom regulator TRAI to come up with new reserve pricing for the airwaves that remined unsold during March 2013 auction. The group also asked TRAI to submit new price within two months.

Telecom Minister Kapil Sibal informed that after getting fresh reserve prices from the regulator, the group of ministers would meet again to take a final decision so that airwaves in all bands could be sold. Planning Commission deputy chairman Montek Singh Ahluwalia has also suggested that it should be taken up by TRAI.

In view of the Feb 15, 2013 apex court judgement, the telecom department (DoT) needs to conduct auction in service areas in the 800 Mhz (CDMA), 900 Mhz (GSM) and 1800 Mhz (2G GSM) bands. The Supreme Court had cancelled 122 telecom licenses in its Feb 2, 2012 verdict.
