Tracking solutions from Taco MobiApps

PUNE: MobiApps, a terrestrial and satellite communication technologies provider, has joined hands with Tata AutoComp Systems ( TACO). The joint venture aims to sell hardware and software solutions to allow companies to manage their fleets and track their vehicles.

Taco MobiApps Telematics or TMT has developed three kinds of solutions Trako-25, Trako 50 and Trako 75 to suit different needs of customers.

The solutions are based on MobiApps technology, which uses global positioning and mobile technologies to keep track of vehicles. MobiApps and TACO are investing a total of S$2 million dollars in the venture - with TACO holding the majority stake. The venture hopes to have 250,000 vehicles equipped with its Vehicle Tracking Solution by 2008.

The Trako 25 uses GSM of cell site technology to fix the location and can pin-point the location of the vehicle within a radius of 2 km to 25 km. Trako 50 is an online device using GPS technology. The information is conveyed through an SMS or GPRS data transfer or CDMA. The system sends out alters in case of emergency and uses voice mail. Trako 75 is a pure data-logging device using GPS based technology. Here, the data is downloaded to the base computer through RF cable.

The company spokesperson said they were providing solutions to transport companies, BPOs and schools. For instance, the PDS (Public Distribution Systems) vehicles in Chattisgarh use the solutions from Taco MobiApps. Other customers include Safex, Prax Air, First Flight Couriers and the Bangalore Metropolitan Transport Corporation. The BPO customer include Progeon and Intelli Global and solutions are used for employee tracking.
