Launched in July, the device can find any 802.11 enabled device and any product equipped with 802.11 active Radio Frequency Identification tags.

Shripati Acharya, director, marketing, Wireless Networking Business Unit, Cisco, said, “This product is an active client that helps in tracking an enterprise's valuable assets. Apparently, the targeted market includes healthcare, where high-end medical equipment can be located and enterprises where IT assets can be tracked and other verticals like retail, manufacturing, etc.”

According to Acharya, the location appliance series is a business-critical application that will help customers not just asset tracking, but also for inventory management and work flow automation.

“India is a strategic market for Cisco, and the wireless market is only growing. As of now we don't have any Indian customers for the 2700 series since it was launched only in July. We foresee a good market potential for this product and for overall wireless products,” said Acharya.

Cisco India's revenues from the wireless segment stood at Rs 50 crore in the last financial year. Parag Arora, business development manager, Cisco, said, “We are anticipating a 40-45% growth in the current financial year.
