Intel has been for long working on power efficient systems, which will play an important role in the development of high-tech devices in the future. Power efficient systems would enable developers and manufacturers develop new systems with new capabilities and form factors, informed Otellini.

In the pipeline are Yonah 65-nm, dual-core mobile processor to be released early next year, Presler dual-core desktop chip and Dempsey dual-core processor. Low voltage mobile processor Merom, low voltage desktop chip Conroe and low voltage server processor Woodcrest are some other products to be released sometime next year.

Merom is expected to be three times power efficient over its earlier version Banias mobile platform released in 2003. Conroe can improve performance per watt by five times over the Northwood chip, and Woodcrest about three-times performance-per-watt over the Xeon processors, informed Otellini.

Also showcased were prototype handhelds dubbed as "hand-top" systems that would offer a PC's performance and a handset's mobility. The prototypes are WiFi and WiMax enabled and sport a five-inch screen, and can run Microsoft Vista operating system.
