NEW DELHI, INDIA: Microsoft co-founder Bill Gates opined that the social networking sites are irritating and he was forced to give up on the social networking phenomenon Facebook after he started getting too many friend requests everyday.

“I get 10,000 friend requests everyday. It gets so irritating,” said Gates, who was in New Delhi to receive the Indira Gandhi Prize for Peace, Disarmament and Development on behalf of the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation. He said he had trouble figuring out whether he “knew this person, did I not know this person”.

"It was just way too much trouble so I gave it up," said Gates.

While confessing that he was not that big at text messaging, Gates said he was impressed with the young people doing that. "I'm not a 24-hour-a-day tech person," he said.
