TN launches Rs. 113.24 cr CCTNS project

CHENNAI, INDIA: After Odisha and Goa, Tamil Nadu has joined the league to launch the Crime and Criminal Tracking Network and Systems (CCTNS) initiative.

For modernising the police force in the state, Tamil Nadu's Chief Minister, J Jayalalitha, the Rs. 113.24 crore CCTNS initiative through video conferencing on Wednesday.

The CM inaugurated the CCTNS, an initiative under the National eGovernance Plan (NeGP) in Coimbatore, Sivaganga, Tiruvallur and Ariyalur districts. About 145 locations from these four districts have been linked. The CCTNS project undertaken by the state would network 2,899 locations, including 1,482 police stations.

An exclusive CIPRUS software developed by the National Informatics Centre (NIC) has been deployed in the CCTNS project.

As per the scheme, the State Information Centre store and upload the FIRs in police stations and case details online. As per an official release, at least two districts were supposed to be brought under the network in the State but Tamil Nadu four districts in the first phase.

Provisions are being made to enable the public to file complaints and apply for licences.
