CHENNAI: The Tamil Nadu Government today said that it
would frame a new policy for the Information Technology sector.
The new policy would be announced in the forthcoming budget session of the
Assembly.
Announcing this in his address on the floor of the Assembly, Tamil Nadu
Governor, Surjit Singh Barnala said: “Considering the growth and multiple
dimensions of the Information Technology Sector, this Government will frame a
new policy to encourage this sector to increase software production and exports
and employment generation.”
With a view to manage the employability crisis and make IT popular the new
Government has said that all schools, especially Government schools in the
State, would be provided with computers. This project would be implemented in
phases over a period of three years.
The Government said that it would be easily accessible to investors, and
function as their ally, providing all required facilities to them for
establishing industries. This announcement is yet another strategy to increase
the foreign investments coming into the State, especially in the IT sector.
Finally, the Government has also announced measures to improve the
infrastructure both in urban and rural areas with the aim of creating an
investor-friendly climate in the State.
However, there was no announcement in the biotech sector, or even the Nanguneri,
whose foundation stone was laid in the previous DMK Government and a project,
which was very close to the heart of the then Union Minister for Commerce and
Industry, Murasoli Maran.
